Bloody Noses

2026-04-09

My oldest son had a wild bloody nose two days ago. It was in the morning, before breakfast, and his nose started bleeding. This isn’t uncommon, he has bloody noses often and so we went upstairs and tried to stop it. And what was unusual is that it took a long long time to stop, maybe 30 minutes.

And it was tough, my son started to get upset, Sneha, my lovely wife, freaked out a little and called the advice nurse. And I also got upset. I am not the most proud of this but I thought worth sharing. And the reason I got upset is that he would not listen to me as I told him to pinch his nose and not to rub his face.

Without the nose pinching his nose wouldn’t stop bleeding. I assume it is uncomfortable for him which is why he doesn’t like it, and I try to explain it to him on why it will help but he doesn’t care about that. And then when it is over and there is a clot, he will rub his face and break what ever clot is in his nose. I assume there is something comforting about rubbing his nose for him but to me it just aggravates the issue and he freaks out even more.

And this is definitely part of having kids or dogs or cats or what not. There are things that we know are good for them, shots with vaccines, visits to the doctor, visits to the dentists but they dont want to do. I will add pinching noses during a bloody nose.

And my oldest son whines sometimes, he wants icecream, he wants a different song in the car, or he doesn’t want to go somewhere, but for some reason I am less upset if we whines about those things than him whining about a bloody nose or about him not pinching his nose. Perhaps the heat of the moment gets to me. Well in any case I need to be more cool and a little more understanding. I need to explain things better to him or just be more patient. I will work on it.
