Changing Behavior

2026-04-03

I think that changing behavior is hard, it is really easy to do the same thing you are doing. I think part of it is comfort zone, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfort_zone and for me I am often in my comfort zone but I do try to get outside of it sometimes.

But the main thrust of this blog is that I have lost a small amount of weight. I try to weight myself sometimes, not too often, always in the morning, and I have lost a small amount of weight. Like 10 pounds over 3 months. I was very heavy a few months ago and knew I needed to make a change, I felt dire about my situation. I still have work to do and a bit more weight to lose.

And so I came up with a strategy, my goals is to eat less. I know that some people change what they eat, high protein, more meat, only fruit, etc. But I just tried to change portion, so for lunch and sometimes dinner I would try to eat a single Japanese rice bowl (Chawan) of food. For me it helps if I can measure the food, taking a large plate I often eat more than I should.

And I love food, and I love the way it tastes, and sometimes I do eat more than one Chawan of food, I am not very strict, but it has helped with portion control. Same with going out to eat or eating at someone else’s house, I just try to take less food. And that is it, no other secrets or gimmicks for me. And I did this day after day. I think that is the hard part, consistency. I feel it is easy to diet for a day or a week, but doing it for months or years is hard. Changing behavior for a long time is hard, until it eventually becomes habit and then you dont think about it anymore. Eventually it will become the new normal I assume, I dont know when that will happen for me.

The other thing that I need to start doing is exercising more. I am getting in a walk most days and some pull ups, but I need to update this behavior even more and do some more stuff, maybe get a workout routine.

One behavior change at a time.
