Buying Multiples
2026-01-04
Before anything else I want to apologize to two people who buy multiples of things who I used to mock but my beliefs have changed and I have changed my opinion.
First off my Dad, who bought a ton of powdered Gatoraid as well a thousands (or millions?) or the same style of toothpick. When he did this I thought he was being a bit odd, he could always return to the store and buy more powdered Gatoraid, why did he buy in such bulk? Didn’t it take up a ton of storage? What if he didn’t use up everything he bought?
Second my friend from college (B) who used to buy multiple of the same articles of the same clothing but in different colors. She was, and is, fashionable and would buy some name brand clothes, like shorts or shirts, all in different colors. Red, green, and blue shorts from American Eagle for example. If she is reading this I am not sure she shopped at American Eagle, it might have been Forever 21 or Hollister or something, I am not sure. Why did she always buy the same clothes? Did she like the shorts that much?
But very recently I have been expanding my love of Costco to include their clothes. So far I buy my socks, jeans, and sweatshirts from there, I am not very fashionable so the combo of quality and price is great. But Costco is pretty seasonal and they only stock things sometimes. Also since I usually go there with at least one kid I dont have a ton of time to shop or browse the aisles.
So right now I have two Costco sweatshirts but honest I could use a few more. They are really nice, full zip, 100% cotton, and pretty cheap. And I would get rid of a few of my other sweatshirts, but the hard part is that I can’t find them in the store I shop in, they are always sold out of my size or not selling the Costco brand. And this is when I realized that I should have bought more when I had the chance, sweatshirts are not like grapes, I can buy them in bulk and suffer very little consequences. I should have bought a few, maybe in a few different colors, last year and have been set for this year. The same more or less go for socks, I could use a few more.
This doesn’t work for everything, there are so many things you can’t buy in bulk even if the quality is high, so I am still trying to figure out what is bulk worthy and what is not.
But I have realize the errors in my ways, I am sorry for making fun of my friends and family for buying in bulk and I will keep an eye out for Costco socks and full zip sweatshirts.
