Democracy

2026-11-03

Today is voting day for 2026. I have voted early through mail which I really appreciate, it gives me the time to sit down with the internet and try to understand the issues and candidates at a very basic level before making a decision. I am really not good at reading laws, contracts, or most legal documents, perhaps this is because I lack experience but more likely my brain is not super good at it and I would be a bad lawyer.

One small note, I do think that voting day should be a federal holiday so people can vote with ease and not worry about getting back to work. Take back another holiday if you want to keep the same number of holidays per year.

I really like democracy, as a citizen getting a small voice to change laws is great. ‘We the people’ etc. I know we as a country are more of a democratic republic we get to elect officials and so electing officials is pretty nice as well. I do live in the bay area in California and so most of the officials I elect are pretty liberal and align with my values. There are a few times when they probably don’t vote like I would, I do really value privacy and individual rights more than average, but on the whole we are probably aligned.

And so I hope people vote and we elect some better people to run our country, because we need a change and democracy is the way to do that. The federal government has lost its way and hopefully some different politicians and majorities can fix that.

This is the quote from Abraham Lincoln (what a wordsmith): You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time

Hopefully we can be fooled a little less and get the government to serve the people a little more.
