Widly Absent Minded
2026-08-11
Sneha is not going to like this one.
Somedays I surprise myself and today was one of those days. Usually that is a good thing, I have some skill that I didn’t know or a strength I was unaware of. But today I outdid my absent mindedness, I know I am pretty out there but today was not good.
I am currently interviewing but I also have a few other things I wanted to do today, one of the things was to go to Costco to get eye glasses. So I walk downstairs and try to get the Miata key but the key is missing. I have two keys but only one was on the key hook. I checked my pockets, no keys there, I looked around the kitchen, no keys there. Hmm, perhaps I dropped they keys in the other car. I checked the other car, no keys there.
And then it dawned on me, I walked over to the Miata (which was parked on the street) and opened the door right away. I sat in the car and looked for the keys, not on the floor of the car, not in the glove box. Then I see it just sitting in the ignition. Jesus Christ I am an idiot. I try to start the car and the car was dead, I had left it in the ‘on’ position.
So I went to the trunk, jumped the battery, and parked the car in the garage, and hooked it up to a battery charger. No harm no foul.
But also I can’t believe myself, how am I this dumb? The last time I was in the Miata I was with both kids and they wanted to show the top go up and down, and so I must have gotten the kids out and forgotten the keys in the ignition. Thankfully no one stole the car.
So I am sorry to Sneha in advance I will try to do better. I will try to learn from this. But also if either of our kids get these genetics of absent mindedness I am sorry to them. It is definitely from me, Sneha is really solid at locking cars. Also I am glad my brain does other things well, like engineering, because if I had to rely on my mindfulness to get a job I would surely starve.
