Snacks In Costco
2026-06-26
I really enjoy snacks, it isn’t a problem but I do think it pushes me to eat smaller meals. I try not to eat worthless snacks, snacks that are only simple carbs (like chips) seems nutritionally pretty worthless to me. If possible I try to buy snacks that have some kind of protein, fiber, complex carb, etc to have some semblance of healthiness. I also think that snacks that have protein or fat tend to keep me full for a little longer so that is a plus, I am still trying to lose small amounts of weight.
And the other part of the title is that I also love Costco. We go there to buy gas, milk, and eggs anyway so I will try to find snacks I like there. They also have a great return policy so that is nice, I am going to return a pot we bought and try to find a bigger size, for me it is much easier to return stuff there rather than Amazon. Also Costco makes more of its money from memberships than from selling stuff, https://www.businessinsider.com/costco-business-model-is-more-like-netflix-than-walmart-2025-12 . It does make me feel better that they aren’t marking up their items a ton. Ok but enough of being a Costco shill for today.
The last thing is I need to be careful buying snacks from Costco because it is really easy to get board of such a large quantity of the same snack. If I buy Turtle Chips, some Korean corn chips, from Costco I need to be ready to eat a lot of those types of chips. Sometimes they have variety packs of things but usually that is not what I am looking for.
So recently there are two items that I have really enjoyed from Costco, healthy trail mix and edamame (Japanese soy beans). The trail mix is great, it is nuts and dried fruit, nothing else (and no peanuts so I think it is the healthier nuts). And I feel like an older person when I say this but if this is one of my go to snacks I need it to be healthy, I cant be eating M&M during the day. And the edamame was also a great snack, a little too salty perhaps, but really healthy and delicious. Both of these snacks I tried to keep well stocked in our house so that if I wanted something to snack on I could reach for them relatively guilt free. And I was buying these week after week and since I work from home I snack from home every day.
But just the last time I went to Costco I couldn’t find either. And this was mildly inconvenient, I was hoping to come home with two large bags of snacks for the week but instead came home with none. I have since run out of both and am trying to find other snacks during the day with little success. I did some research on the Costco website, I think the healthy trail mix is still there but I think they have stopped carrying the edamame. I will look harder next time for the trail mix. And this is kind of the point of this blog, I do rely on Costco for a lot of groceries and so I am at their whim, for better or worse. Hopefully they will forever carry milk, eggs, butter, and flour, American staples. But they will probably keep changing up their snacks as fads come and go. My options are: make my own snacks (which I am thinking about) or buy the best of what they have. If I had more time or cared more I would broaden the stores that I shopped at and build some redundancies into my preferences, ‘Ohh they stopped selling this at Costco let me go to Trader Joe’s and find the equivalent there’. But that takes time and effort that I am not willing to put in. So I am kind of at the mercy of Costco right now for snacks, and that is ok.
