Looking Good For My Wife

2026-06-09

I do feel like I am getting into the meat of being a father. We have moved to the suburbs, we have two lovely kids, and a lot of my day is filled with packing lunches, making breakfast, driving kids to school. Our weekends are filled with play dates, seeing grandparents and families. I have left behind some of my bachelor life, and for me that was the glamorous (but super fun) life of playing games, living in SF, fine dining often.

I like my new life, I also liked my old life.

But one thing that I realize is that sometimes I get behind some personal tasks. I am trying to launch this start up and it gets busy, just having kids in general is a lot, there is a lot of cooking and cleaning to be done. So somethings fall by the wayside but I am trying to get them back. The top things I am thinking about are eating well, I need to eat less calories and eat a little healthier, exercise, I am trying to make some kind of daily routine, and finally it is grooming, getting haircuts and shaving.

And it is the last one that I wanted to talk about. I am a tech worker, not a sales person, and so no one really cares what I look like at work. Often I am haggard looking, wearing a hoodie, with shaggy hair, very standard tech worker stuff. I do shower every day, that is important to me, but I sometimes go too long, 2 months?, without getting a haircut and I look wild. My hair gets curly at the ends and stands up everywhere, it is not my best look.

And although my lovely wife Sneha will put up with me with long hair and a wispy beard (I cant grow a nice looking beard), I know she prefers if I have well kept hair and am clean shaven. So I am going to try to put in more effort to look good for her, she is the only one I want to impress anyway and the bar is so low, but I think I can manage twice a week shaving and maybe one haircut a month. I will try to make it part of my routine along with diet and exercise.
