Vacation Sleeping
2026-05-29
Ok, let me see how quick I can be, sorry in advance for the spelling and grammar errors. The kids are both asleep, I am listening to the baby monitor, and I have made breakfast, I have also made coffee for myself for I have some variable amount of free time. We will see if I can complete this blog during that free time.
Last weekend I went on a vacation with my lovely wife and her family. Everyone was nice and accommodating, there was some minor family drama like there always is, but most people got along. We did a bike ride with the kids, we saw a black bear cub running around Tahoe, we did a small hike, and we hung out with family. It was a very nice vacation and the kids had a great time.
The one thing that really hamstrung me (it is interesting that ‘hamstrung’ is a verb) was the bed. I didn’t sleep well any night and probably got an average of four hours of sleep a night. And one of the weird parts is that I dont really know why. It was comfortable enough, I wasn’t sleeping on hay. Sneha didn’t sleep well either. I found the bed to be too soft but normally I sleep much better than that even on a soft bed. It took me hours to fall asleep. We also slept in the same room as the kids, I dont think that was the root cause but I am not sure. Was it too hot? Too cold?
Ok I did not make it, but the kids are now at school, fed, bags packed, the kitchen has been cleaned.
Where was I. Ohh the other root cause I was thinking about is that I have just gotten older. I dont know if this is a contributor or not but it is part of the equation, maybe I just older and dont sleep well outside my bed. I do hope this is not the case but I am feeling my body change in other ways and perhaps sleep is a part of that.
Anyway, I had a great vacation minus sleep but am also very happy to be sleeping at home now. Well off to work.
